How Claude connects to tools
Anthropic supports remote MCP servers as custom connectors in claude.ai and Claude Desktop (the Help Center path is Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector; some plans need an owner to enable it). Claude Code adds remote servers with claude mcp add --transport http, and accepts headers with --header. HTTP is the recommended transport; SSE is deprecated.

FAQ
Can Claude actually execute trades?
Yes. With the OpenFinance connector on, Claude calls order tools that place real orders after you confirm. Without a connector Claude can only talk about trading.
Which Claude plans support custom connectors?
Anthropic offers custom connectors on its paid and some free plans; Team/Enterprise owners may have to enable them.
Claude Desktop vs Claude Code?
Desktop/web use the Connectors screen and OAuth. Claude Code uses the CLI command and an x-api-key header, which suits scripted strategies.
Is my key shown to Claude?
With OAuth, Claude never sees a key. With Claude Code the key is stored in your MCP config, not in the conversation.
Can Claude backtest?
Claude can pull candles and reason over them. OpenFinance is for live execution; there's no paper mode, so test with small size.
How do I stop Claude trading?
Turn the connector off in the chat's tools menu, or remove it in Settings → Connectors. Revoke the API key in OpenFinance for good measure.
Does it work on Claude mobile?
Connectors added on the web sync to the mobile apps.
